Ama Dablam Base Camp
Ama Dablam base camp occupies a grassy meadow at 4,600 metres about an hour above Pangboche, directly under the south-west ridge. In the autumn season it is a small tented town of climbing teams working the fixed lines up to Camp 1 and Camp 2.
Helicopter traffic here is expedition work: loads in at the start of the season, loads out at the end, and evacuations from the mountain when they are needed. Ama Dablam is technical, it is popular, and it produces a steady number of injuries and altitude cases every autumn.
Flights
Fifteen minutes down to Lukla, or direct to Kathmandu for a medical case. We coordinate with the expedition leader and, where relevant, with the rescue insurer before launching.
Season
The pad is established for the autumn season and generally not usable outside it. Ask before you plan around it.
