Khumbu, Everest region
Dingboche
Dingboche sits at 4,410 metres in the Imja valley, a few hundred metres higher than Pheriche and a short walk across the ridge from it. Most Everest Base Camp itineraries build in a second acclimatisation night here, with a day hike up Nangkartshang for the view of Makalu.
It is also the staging point for Island Peak and one of the approaches to the Amphu Labtsa. Between trekkers, climbers and porters, the village is busy through October and again in April and May.
Flying from Dingboche
We run a short leg down to Lukla and a longer one direct to Kathmandu. The Lukla flight is one of the cheapest in our rate card, because it is twenty minutes of descending flight with no repositioning required. The Kathmandu leg costs considerably more, since the aircraft has to make the whole transit.
Acclimatisation, honestly
Flying up to Dingboche from Kathmandu in a morning is possible and we will sell you the flight. It is not sensible unless you are planning to come straight back down. Three thousand metres of altitude gain in an hour gives your body nothing to work with, and the symptoms usually arrive on the second night.
