Helicopter price calculator

Price any route we fly, in dollars or rupees, with a weight and balance check that tells you whether your group actually fits the aircraft.

Every figure here is a planning estimate taken from our published rate card. The confirmed price depends on the aircraft available that morning, the weather window, and the total weight going on board.

How helicopter pricing in Nepal actually works

A helicopter costs roughly the same to fly whether it carries one passenger or five. That single fact explains almost everything about pricing in this market.

A private charter is the honest unit: you are buying the aircraft for a trip. The figure covers the machine, the crew, the fuel and the repositioning flight to get to you and back afterwards. It does not change if two of your party drop out.

A shared seat is that charter price divided across the people on board, plus a margin for the risk that the aircraft goes up half empty. That is why a shared seat is not simply the charter divided by five, and why shared seats on quiet routes cost proportionally more than on busy ones.

Why prices move in the Everest region

Four things, in order of how much they matter.

Altitude and temperature. A single-engine helicopter loses useful load as the air thins. The same machine that carries five people out of Lukla at 2,845 metres may carry two out of Gorakshep at 5,164 on a warm morning. Fewer passengers per trip means a higher cost per seat.

Repositioning. If an aircraft has to fly from Kathmandu to collect you and then fly home empty, you are paying for four legs and using one. Routes the aircraft already works, like Namche to Lukla, are cheap for exactly this reason.

Season. October and April are busy. Aircraft are committed, shared seats fill, and there is no slack in the system. January and July are quiet, and a charter that would be impossible to get in October is available at short notice.

Fuel. Aviation fuel in Nepal is imported, and price movements feed through to charter rates within weeks.

About the payload check

The calculator on this page does something most booking sites will not: it tells you when your group is too heavy for the aircraft at the altitude you are flying from.

The model is deliberately conservative and simplified. It takes the higher of the two endpoints, applies a useful-load figure appropriate to a single-engine machine at that altitude, and compares it to your group weight plus baggage. It does not know the aircraft, the temperature or the fuel state on the day, so treat it as a warning system rather than a load sheet.

If it tells you that you are over, you are not being refused a flight. You are being told, in advance, that the answer is probably two aircraft or lighter bags, and that it is better to know that now than on a helipad at five thousand metres.

What the figure is not

It is a planning estimate from our published rate card. The confirmed price depends on the aircraft available that morning, the weather window and the total weight going on board. We confirm it in writing before anything is charged.
