Tengboche
Tengboche sits on a forested saddle at 3,867 metres, and holds the most important Buddhist monastery in the Khumbu. From the meadow in front of it you can see Everest, Nuptse, Lhotse, Ama Dablam and Thamserku in a single sweep, which is why almost every trekking itinerary stops here for a night.
Helicopter movements at Tengboche are lighter than at Namche or Pheriche. Most are pickups: a trekker who has turned back, a group running short of days, or an evacuation from the climb up out of the Dudh Kosi gorge, which is one of the harder ascents on the standard route.
The flight down to Lukla
Tengboche to Lukla is twelve minutes in the air and replaces the best part of a long day on foot, including the descent to Phunki Tenga and the climb back up to Namche. In a season when you have already lost days to weather, that is a day recovered.
Respecting the monastery
The pad is close to an active religious site. Crews keep engine runs short and avoid unnecessary movements during morning prayers. If you are arranging a landing here, expect us to be specific about timing.
