Hinku valley, Mera Peak
Khare
Khare sits at 4,950 metres at the head of the Hinku valley and is the last settlement before Mera Peak, the highest trekking peak in Nepal at 6,476 metres. It is a cluster of lodges on moraine, used almost entirely by climbing groups.
The Hinku is a separate valley system from the Khumbu, reached over the Zatrwa La from Lukla or walked in from Phaplu. That isolation is why helicopters matter here: the walk out takes three to four days over a pass that is genuinely serious in bad weather.
Flights from Khare
We fly Khare to Lukla in about twenty-five minutes, and direct to Kathmandu in an hour. Both are morning-only operations and both carry the payload restrictions you would expect from a pad at nearly five thousand metres.
Climbing season traffic
Mera has two seasons, roughly April to May and October to November. Outside those months there is very little here, weather information is thin, and we will want a clear picture of your group before committing an aircraft.
