Khare to Kathmandu helicopter flight 7:30 AM 3 1 hr

An hour in the air from the Mera Peak base at 4,950 metres to Kathmandu, with a fuel stop on the way. This is the expedition exit from the Hinku valley.

The alternative on foot is three to four days over the Zatrwa La, which is fine in good weather and not fine in bad. For a team coming off a summit with equipment, tired people and a flight home, the helicopter is usually the decision.

Equipment

Declare it. Ten kilos a head is the published allowance, and Mera teams routinely carry two or three times that between them. We would much rather plan a second lift or a Kothe staging than have the conversation on the pad.

Evacuations

Mera produces altitude cases and rope injuries in roughly equal measure, and the two need different handling. If you are calling about a casualty, tell us which, and tell us where they are: high camp, Khare, or somewhere between.

Pilot advisory

A high-altitude departure with a planned fuel stop at Lukla or Phaplu. The Hinku valley has less weather reporting than the Khumbu, so we confirm the picture with the operator on the morning rather than the night before.

Pricing

What this flight costs, and what it does not include

Both figures are the price we quote on WhatsApp. A shared seat puts you on a scheduled departure with other travellers. A private charter is the whole aircraft on your schedule.

Included

  • Confirmed seat or aircraft on the stated departure
  • All government taxes on the charter
  • Passenger liability insurance
  • Pilot and crew
  • Free rescheduling if the flight is held for weather

Not included

  • Domestic airport service charge, NPR 400 per passenger, paid at the terminal
  • Personal travel and medical insurance
  • Meals, accommodation and ground transport
  • National park permits and TIMS cards
  • Excess baggage above the stated allowance
  • Anything arising from a delay outside our control

We publish how these prices are set and when they move. Read the price transparency policy.

Safety

What you need to know before you board

Departure from 4,950 metres with a limited payload, followed by a planned fuel stop.

Climbing equipment counts against the allowance. Declare the total weight in advance.

For an evacuation off Mera, contact the dispatch desk directly. Altitude cases and rope injuries are both common on this mountain and the routing decision depends on which it is.
