Out of the Gokyo valley and into the Kathmandu valley in about an hour and five minutes of flying, with a fuel stop on the way. It is the direct exit for trekkers finishing the Gokyo lakes route who do not want to go near the Cho La or spend four days walking back to Lukla.
The aircraft comes down the Dudh Kosi, takes fuel at Lukla or Phaplu, and crosses the middle hills. You lose 3,400 metres.
Two windows required
This is the honest caveat on the route. You need flyable conditions in a narrow high valley and again at Kathmandu, and the two do not always coincide. It cancels more than the Lukla transits do. We rebook free, but if you have a flight home, leave room.
Pairing the valleys
A pattern we fly often: Gorakshep to Gokyo by air, a night at the lakes, then Gokyo to Kathmandu. It gives you both sides of the Khumbu without the pass and without the retrace.

Pilot advisory
Expect a fuel stop at Lukla or Phaplu. The Gokyo valley needs a clear morning at the top end and Kathmandu needs one at the bottom, which makes this one of the more weather-dependent transits we sell.

Departures use the domestic side of Tribhuvan International. Traffic is heavy between seven and nine in the morning, so a helicopter slot can be held on the ground for twenty minutes even in perfect weather. Arrive an hour before your departure time with your passport.
